Abstract |
Heat transfer studies on immiscible systems are vital in petrochemical and
allied industries. Two phase systems water – oleic acid and water – palm oil of
varying compositions were experimentally studied in a 1:2 shell and tube heat
exchanger. The data fitted to an equation of the form NNu= n NRek with an
average absolute deviation ranging between 3.882 and 9.921 percent where n and k
are functions of composition of the systems studied. The two phase
multiplier,L, was related to Lockhart Martinelli(L-M) parameter, χtt2, using
the two phase data and a correlation L = b* χtt2 / c+ χtt2 was established. The
two phase heat transfer coefficient h2 for both systems were recalculated based
on the above correlation and found that water as better reference fluid gave the
least error ranging between 2.193 and 6.313 percent for both the systems. |

Abstract |
Extracting previously unknown patterns from huge volume of data is the primary
objective of any data mining algorithm. In recent days there is a tremendous
growth in data collection due to the advancement in the field of information
technology. The patterns revealed by data mining algorithm can be used in
various domains like Image Analysis, Marketing and weather forecasting. As a
side effect of the mining algorithm some sensitive information is also revealed.
There is a need to preserve the privacy of individuals which can be achieved by
using privacy preserving data mining. In this paper we propose a new approach to
preserve sensitive information using fuzzy logic. First we perform clustering on
the original data set then we add noise to the numeric data using a fuzzy
membership function that results in distorted data. Set of Clusters generated
using the distorted data is also relative to the original cluster as well as
privacy is also achieved. It is also proved that the number of iterations for
performing the clustering process is less in our approach when compared with the
traditional approach. |

Abstract |
Active Magnetic Bearings (AMB) have many advantages such as no friction loss, no
abrasion, lubrication- free quality, and used for high rotational speed
applications. A complete AMB system consists of an actuator, power amplifier, a
rotor position sensor and a control system. In this paper, a closed loop
decentralized Fuzzy Logic controller for Active magnetic Bearings is designed.
For the numerical evaluation of control algorithm a MIMO (multiple input
multiple output) mathematical model of the controlled plant is determined. The
majority of industrial applications of active magnetic bearings were still based
on conventional PID control system. The proposed control design is based on rule
based procedure. It has been shown, that the presented FL control guarantees
satisfactory high damping, low parameter variations and measurement noise of the
overall system. The designed FL controller is able to maintain the rotor in
center position in the final steady state. Simulations are provided to
illustrate the performance of the controller. |

Abstract |
Context Based Binary Arithmetic Coding (CBAC) is a part of JZ profile of Audio
Video Coding Standard (AVS).The goal of this paper is to present the efficient
hardware based binary arithmetic coder which is the main part of binarisation
involved in CBAC of AVS. This paper explains about the efficient arithmetic
coding involved in the video transcoding. The major concerns of using JZ profile
of AVS is movie compression for high-density storage and relatively higher
computational complexity can be tolerated at the encoder side to provide higher
video quality. This arithmetic coder avoids the slow multiplication, here the
traditional arithmetic calculation is transformed to software domain using log.
The proposed arithmetic engine will give high compression gain and an efficient
coding design for handling the high resolution video sequence. This is used for
the effective pipelining process and increase the overall processing speed. The
implementation of arithmetic coder in CABAC (Context Adaptive Binary Arithmetic
Coding) architecture is satisfying the CBAC feature. The study of this paper is
required to know about the process of efficient AC(arithmetic coding) and the
hardware based arithmetic engine in CBAC. The CBAC engine is implemented on
Xilinx Virtex-5 ML501 Board. The synthesis and simulation results are presented.
The proposed architecture can work with the 31.384MHz rate. |

Abstract |
Plagiarism is a form of academic misconduct. It has increased rapidly because it
is now quick and easy to reach data and information through electronic documents
and the Internet. The problem occurs when found documents content is illegal and
without permission or citation, this problem is known as plagiarism. One of the
major challenges is to detect the plagiarism and illegal copy. This paper
discusses a new representation method for text documents called text graph-based
representation. The proposed method does not represent the content of a text
document as a graph only, but also captures the underlying semantic meaning in
terms of the relationships among its concepts in order to defeat the difficulty
which the traditional plagiarism detection systems face with some kinds of
plagiarism such as complicated plagiarism in which users can reword the
plagiarized part or replace some words by their synonyms. The experiments have
been carried out using PAN-PC-09 standardization of plagiarism detection corpus.
The results showed that our method remarkably outperforms the modern methods for
plagiarism detection. |

Abstract |
Present complexity of System on Chip (SOC) has brought new challenges in low
power design and testing. This shows that huge test pattern and its
corresponding switching activity are one of the major problems. Due to this
large number of test patterns the data transition time is also increased. More
switching is also proportional to more number of transitions. This paper
considers the problem of switching activity in scan based test pattern. This
proposed approach is based on reducing the huge switching activity by
partitioning the test vectors into groups. The number of transition is
identified in each partition group. The groups having zero transition have
lesser switching activities, so they are not considered equally with transition
group for testing. Thus the test run time and number of switching is minimized.
This in turn reduces the power consumption for testing. The proposed technique
tested on ISCAS89 shows the significant reduction in overall switching activity
of the test pattern. |

Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to identify Knowledge Management (KM) dominant
success factors in an academic institute. In today’s competitive business
environment, KM is increasingly recognized as a significant factor in gaining a
competitive advantage. To obtain such competitive advantage, companies must know
how to manage organizational knowledge effectively and optimize the knowledge
processes within an organization. KM success factors have been investigated in
many studies, but there has been no sufficient examination of the dominant
success factors of KM in academic institution. There is a need to find dominant
factors that can be used to make an accurate assessment of the KM success or
effectiveness. A model for KM in academic institution that based on Structural
Equation Model is constructed at the end of the study. The proposed model
contributes to a better identification of KM dominant success factors; and
enables managers of academic institution to have a better understanding of how
to improve the management of knowledge in their institution. |

pp 160 - 168 Vol 32. No. 2 -- 2011 |
Abstract |
In this paper, inter space local binary pattern (ISLBP) algorithm for content
based image retrieval (CBIR) is proposed. First the image is separated into
red(R), green(G), and blue(B) color spaces, and these are used for inter space
local binary patterns (ISLBP), which are evaluated by taking into consideration
of local difference between the center pixel and its neighbors by changing
center pixels of one color space with other color space. Local binary pattern (LBP)
extracts the information based on distribution of edges in an image. Finally,
inter LBP histograms are constructed between the color spaces for image
retrieval. The experimentation has been carried out for proving the worth of our
algorithm. It is further mentioned that the databases considered for experiment
viz. Corel 1000 and MIT VisTex databases. The results after being investigated
show a significant improvement in terms of their evaluation measures as compared
to LBP on RGB spaces separately. |

Abstract |
Wireless Sensor Networks utilize large numbers of Wireless Sensor nodes to
forward information from source to destination. Wireless Sensor Nodes are
battery-powered devices. Energy saving is always vital to maximize the lifetime
of Wireless Sensor Network. Recently, there are many Routing Protocols have been
designed and proposed for Wireless Sensor Networks to improve its performance in
terms of Communication Time, Residual Energy and Energy Consumption and also
these protocols addressed Reliability and Shortest path. In this paper, this
research work has implemented various Routing Protocols namely Power Efficient
Data Gathering and Aggregation Protocol (PEDAP), Power Efficient Data Gathering
and Aggregation Protocol-Power Aware (PEDAP-PA), Energy Efficient Spanning Tree
approach (EESR), and Localized-Power Efficient Data Gathering and Aggregation
Protocol (L-PEDAP) are studied thoroughly. From the experimental results, it is
revealed that L-PEDAP outperforms PEDAP, PEDAP-PA and EESR in terms of
Bandwidth, Resource Utilization and Communication Reliability. However, L-PEDAP
fails to minimize the Energy Consumption and Communication Time due to Dynamic
Routing Mechanisms. The PEDAP achieves less Communication Time to forward
packets to destination. However, it fails to achieve Power-Aware Reliable
Communication. From this analysis, it is observed that for faster communication,
PEDAP could be used and for reliable communication with high bandwidth
utilization, L-PEDAP is the best Routing Protocol in Wireless Sensor Networks. |

Abstract |
A compact triple band rectangular microstrip antenna (RMSA) for WLAN / WiMAX
applications is proposed. The antenna operates at three resonance frequencies
2.4/3.2/3.5GHz Covering the WLAN/ WiMAX operating bands, IEEE WLAN protocol
802.11 b/g employs 2.4 GHz and WiMAX 3.5 GHz. The antenna was studied by means
of simulations as well as practical measurements. The Triple band
characteristics of antenna are due to the various slots on the radiating
structure. The proposed antenna achieves good impedance matching, return loss
(greater than -10dB), radiation patterns and consistent gain at all three
operating bands. The antenna is simulated using Ansoft’s HFSSv11 and measured
using network analyzer. The simulated and experimental results of the antenna
are in good agreement. The antenna has an overall dimension is 29.44mm x 38.04
mm x1.6mm, when printed on a FR-4 substrate of dielectric constant 4.4. |
