BAT ALGORITHM FOR ROUGH SET ATTRIBUTE REDUCTION |
Author: |
AHMED MAJID TAHA, ALICIA Y.C. TANG |
Abstract: |
Attribute reduction (AR) refers to the problem of choosing an optimal subset of
attributes from a larger set of possible attributes that are most predictive for
a given result. AR techniques have recently attracted attention due to its
importance in many areas such as pattern recognition, machine learning and
signal processing. In this paper, a new optimization method has been introduced
called bat algorithm for attribute reduction (BAAR), the proposed method is
based mainly on the echolocation behavior of bats. BAAR is verified using 13
benchmark datasets. Experimental results show that the performances of the
proposed method when compared to other features selection methods achieve equal
or better performance. |

OPTIMIZATION METHOD OF PILOT ALLOCATION FOR COOPERATIVE AMPLIFY-AND-FORWARD OFDM
SYSTEM |
Author: |
SUOPING LI, LITING YANG, JIN LI |
Abstract: |
Pilot-assisted channel estimation has been studied only in common cooperative AF
(Amplify-and-Forward) OFDM which has no feedback mechanism. In this paper, for
cooperative AF-OFDM system, we propose a feedback technique in which the pilot
allocation mechanism is adapted to the cooperative mobile channel. Then we show
how uniform pilots may no longer be optimal compared with our pilots. After
deducing the instantaneous system SNR is the function of the pilot allocation,
we optimize the pilot locations using optimization method at the destination
node. We examine the feedback overhead that is associated with our method and
make comparisons with the conventional uniform pilot allocation. To improve
system capacity, we suggest reduce the feedback information using K-means
clustering algorithm. Simulation results confirmed that the proposed
optimization method has an ideal performance gains and the algorithm of feedback
reduction can reduce the feedback information under the premise of ideal
performance. |

BAI XIAO-PING, XU CHUN-MEI |
Abstract: |
With the development of economic globalization and the information network
system, in order to deal with more and more fierce market competition situation,
supply chain management (SCM) which is looked as a kind of main operation modes,
has been adopted by manufacturing enterprises, Construction industry has already
become pillar sector in the national economy. The particularity of its product
and the complexity of its production process have challenged the operation mode
of building construction enterprises in which the high cost and low benefit
phenomenon often exist. This paper presents the detailed method and procedure
applying supply chain management to the construction enterprises from value
chain analysis side, also analyzes some strategies that should be selected when
the supply chain management based on value chain analysis is applied in building
construction enterprises, and gives detailed case study. The presented detailed
methods and points can offer the meaningful reference for solving some problems
existed in building construction enterprises, such as the discontinuance of
business, low level productivity, the big losses, insufficient resource
utilization rate. |

Abstract: |
High stories in multistory buildings in most of the Middle East countries suffer
from water shortage due to bad and old designs in water supply systems. An
automatic regulation water supply system based on PLC (Programmable Logic
Controller) & VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) is proposed. This paper explains
water supply system’s energy conservation principle of a pump with speed control
according to disturbances. The system can supply the building with water with
constant pressure and save energy efficiency.
The system was tested for 24 hours a day for three weeks with capacity of (20
-120) L/min of water, and about 10 meters building height. The pressure of the
supply network is about 1.2 Bar. |

Abstract: |
The power network system (PNS) is an important part of the power System, safety
and reliability is ensured only by reliability optimized design. By analyzing
the influential factors of reliability allocation, the method of fuzzy synthesis
evaluation based on fuzzy mathematical theory was presented to carry through
optimum allocation of power network system in this paper. Namely, appointed
reliability index is distributed rationally to subsystem of PNS by defining
factor set of reliability level and the weight of factors, and further defining
synthesis decision-making based on attachment degree of every factor. Both
reliability of whole system and economic benefit are ensured by the method, and
design example is given . It provides a feasible method for reliability optimum

HIGH-DIMENSIONAL HIERARCHICAL OLAP : A PREFIX–INDEX HIERARCHICAL CUBING APPROACH |
Author: |
KONGFA HU, ZHE SHENG, LING CHEN |
Abstract: |
The pre-computation of data cubes is critical for improving the response time of
OLAP(online analytical processing) systems and accelerating data mining tasks in
large data warehouses. However, as the sizes of data warehouses grow, the time
it takes to perform this pre-computation becomes a significant performance
bottleneck. In a high dimensional OLAP, it might not be practical to build all
these cuboids and their indices. In this paper, we propose a multi-dimensional
hierarchical cubing algorithm, Prefix-index hierarchical cubing, based on an
extension of the previous minimal cubing approach. This method partitions the
high dimensional data cube into low dimensional cube segments. Such an approach
permits a significant reduction of CPU and I/O overhead. Experimental results
show that the proposed method is significantly more efficient than other
existing cubing methods. |

OPTIMIZING AND COORDINATING THE DYNAMIC CONFIGURATION OF PORTS’
COLLECTION-DISTRIBUTION TRANSPORTATION CAPACITY |
Author: |
HAIHONG YU |
Abstract: |
The collection-distribution transportation capacity has great significance for
operation efficiency of a port. Facing with the changing demand of containers
transport, ports are having an important decision problem of optimally
configuring the collection-distribution transportation capacity of ports with a
view of long term and dynamic, which is good for ports to maintain high
operation efficiency and reduce idle waste of transportation resources. Through
the analysis of a port supply chain consisted of a port, a freight forwarder and
a transport fleet, the article constructs a multi-period dynamic optimization
model to discuss the optimal strategy of the collection-distribution capacity
configuration. Besides, the article analyzes the coordination problem of this
dynamic strategy of capacity configuration. The results show that the optimal
configuration strategy is a function which includes three parts: 1) basic
configuration amount; 2) the derived amount by demand; 3) the amount affected by
period. The optimal dynamic strategy is not affected by direct transport
operating cost but trucks holding cost. In addition, we obtain the conclusions
that present wholesale price freight charge mode between transport fleet and
forwarder can not achieve coordination. What we need is to change this
wholesales price mode and to implement a new freight charge mode called “service
plus capacity” mode. |

MINGWEI QIN, TAO DAI, WEI LIU |
Abstract: |
In non-cooperative communication system, symbol rate is a crucial part of
parameter estimation. Based on the wavelet transform, an improved symbol rate
estimation model is proposed. Without a prior knowledge, we raised a better
symbol rate pre-estimation method in view of corrected average periodogram’s
smoothing power spectrum. By choosing the optimal wavelet scale and fast Fourier
transform, we adopted a multi-synchronous reference algorithm to extract the
symbol rate. Simulation demonstrates that the performance of accuracy and
anti-noise is improved than traditional algorithms. The normalized mean square
is lower than 10-2 at SNR=0dB and reached 10-5 when SNR=10dB, which is
approaching more closely to CRLB. |

Abstract: |
Health monitoring technology has played a successful and powerful role to ensure
the safe operation and extend the service life of the bridges. Maintenance costs
of the bridges can be greatly reduced to avoid the final closure of traffic
caused by frequent overhaul of major losses through early detection of disease.
Since in-service concrete cable-stayed bridges have been put into operation for
a long time, some degree of diseases occurs. This type of bridge health
monitoring system (HMS) is quite different with health monitoring system of new
bridges, in which damage must be considered. To ensure the safe use of the
bridge in service, it is necessary to develop long-term health monitoring
system. Monitoring the long-term and regular change of the mechanical properties
of the key parts of the bridges by use of modern means of diagnosis, operational
status and endurance capacity can be evaluated to ensure the safe use of the
bridge and extend life. Different types of sensors should be installed at the
key locations and components where large displacements and stresses are expected
to occur. It is concluded that a HMS for long-span bridges should be able to
monitor the loading and structural parameters. Monitored results can facilitate
the scheduling of bridge inspection and maintenance activities, once the damage
is identified. |

KUN LV, YANG YUAN AND MING-JUN ZHANG |
Abstract: |
In order to improve longevity, efficiency and working quality of machinery,
taking the six-bar mechanism as example, the velocity fluctuation of six-bar
mechanism and its adjustment method are studied. At first, an equivalent dynamic
model of six-bar mechanism was established with the vector loop equations and
kinematic and dynamic characteristics were analyzed based on the model. Then
kinematic and dynamic simulation of six-bar mechanism was carried out with
software Matlab. The simulation results reveal the real movement regularity of
six-bar mechanism of shaper in the stable operation stage. By comparing the
simulation results with theoretical calculation, the validity of this method was
verified. Finally, the flywheel which can store and release energy was used to
adjust the periodic velocity fluctuation. The simulation results with or without
flywheel show that the flywheel is of considerable adjustment effect on periodic
velocity fluctuation. The peak value of angular velocity and angular
acceleration of equivalent component were decreased by 11.3% and 99.57%
respectively, thus to improve movement stability. This method proposed in the
paper has universal significance for the general mechanism analysis and design. |

Abstract: |
In short range Radio Frequency technologies, Wireless Location Area Network
(WLAN) has already be used as one of the most effective indoor positioning
system. It is competitive in terms of both accuracy and cost compared to similar
systems. To date, several signal strength based techniques have been proposed.
Fingerprinting is a common technique for indoor positioning. It consists of the
data training phase and the real-time positioning phase, data training phase is
to generate a radio map for the location phase. Generated map is the key for the
accuracy of positioning, for generating the radio map we need collect samples at
each reference point and analyse Radio Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) . This
paper presents a new approach to approximate RSSI probability distribution, that
is the adjusted Weibull function. Researchers have done several experiments in
difference conditions, the test results show that the adjusted Weibull function
can well approximate 2.4G WiFi RSS probability distribution. I hope this study
can bring some reference for fingerprinting indoor positioning. |

THE DYNAMIC VOLTAGE AND FREQUENCY SCALING BASED ON THE ON-CHIP MICROCONTROLLER

TIEFENG LI, CAIWEN MA, WENHUA LI |
Abstract: |
With the rapid increase of complexity and size of the on-chip microcontroller
system (OCMS), the power consumption issue for the OMCS is increasingly becoming
critical and needs to be solved quickly. Because the CPU is often the major
power consumer in the OCMS, so an important strategy to achieve energy saving is
via the dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS), which can enable a
processor to operate at a range of voltages and frequencies. However, it needs
to be emphasized that the conventional DVFS is fully executed by the software
scheduler in the operating system, and its main drawback is that the scheduler
can’t accurately track the performance requirements of CPU when the dormant
frequency of CPU is increasing continuously. In this paper, we firstly present a
typical hardware DVFS architecture, which can automatically carry out DVFS
without the software scheduler involvement. Therefore, it avoids increasing the
software's workload and reduces the power consumption. |

simulated annealing algorithm and opposition-based learning strategy, is
presented for NP-hard protein structure prediction based on AB model. Flying
grain is used to control the neighborhood structure of particle, so particle can
search the global optimum in solution space more finely. An opposition-based
learning is used to keep the diversity of swarm and improve the algorithm’s

are always the research focuses and difficulties. This paper presented a
hardware design method for the digital closed loop control system of FOG based
on FPGA. Based on a large number of experiments, this paper summarized the
parameter demands for each module of closed loop control circuit and designed a
corresponding hardware circuit using FPGA. The proposed twice closed loop
technique improved the zero offset stability of FOG. The using of FPGA brought
the digital signal processing by software, the system reliability and agility
enhancement as well as the system miniaturization. Particularly, we discussed
the problems of component selection and the anti-jamming measures for PCB design

Abstract: |
In the analysis of strength reduction finite element method, there are a variety
of computational judgments of instability. Therefore, it is necessary to
approach the applicability and discrepancy of different instability criteria.
Based on the thought of real-time visual analysis, this article gives the
research and development of corresponding visual programs, and finishes the
real-time visual display technique of view about the relationship between three
instability criteria and the strength reduction factor in computation of
strength reduction finite element method. Then this article makes the numerical
computation and analysis of a rather complicated slope. Research indicates that
with the combination of finite element computation of strength reduction and the
visual technique of computer, the sliding surface and stability of a slope can
be analyzed intuitively. For slopes with local sliding surface or complicated
shapes, safety factors are somewhat different because of employing the different
instability criteria in the computation of strength reduction finite element. |

Abstract: |
With the development of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), it is applied
to more and more areas. The control system of PMSM becomes the most important
issue in applications. Because the sensorless control system possesses some good
performances, it attracts many researchers’ interests. This paper presents the
application of Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) in PMSM speed control system. A PMSM
vector control system model is established with Matlab/Simulink. The
mathematical model of two-phase stationary coordinate system ( - coordinate
system) is adopted for linearization of the nonlinear mathematical model of
PMSM. EKF algorithm estimates the rotation angle and rotation speed of the rotor
of PMSM in the process of system control. The simulation results show that the
control system works smoothly in the cases of the super-speed, slow-speed and
with load. EKF estimations of the rotation angle and speed track actual angle

IMPLEMENTING VALUE INVESTING STRATEGY THROUGH AN INTEGRATED FUZZY-ANN MODEL |
Author: |
SHEN, KAO-YI |
Abstract: |
Value investing strategy is a main approach that has been widely examined in the
academic field for identifying stocks with good prospects. However, to implement
this strategy in practice, it is unavoidable to explore the implicit
relationship among financial performance and subsequent stock returns for making
decisions. Thus, this research adopts a theoretical framework from the value
investing strategy and proposes an integrated AI (artificial intelligence) model
to learn the complicated if-then rules for supporting stock selection. The
proposed Fuzzy-ANN model may leverage its superior learning capability of neural
network for modeling large amount of data, and the fuzzy inference system is
used to retain the plausible relationships among financial variables and stock
movements. An empirical case is illustrated for how to apply the proposed model
in the Taiwan’s stock market. The selected value stocks (i.e., high value
portfolio) outperformed the market indexes (Taiwan 50 index and Taiwan stock
exchange weighted index) in various holding periods. To put risk factor into
consideration, the high value portfolio also surpassed the market indexes by
using the Sharpe ratio measurement with statistical significance. The result
indicates that the proposed Fuzzy-ANN model is capable to select high value
stocks with meaningful insights. |
