A 10-BIT 50-MS/S LOW-POWER PIPELINE ADC FOR WIMAX/LTE |
Author: |
ZHZO-XIN XIONG, MIN CAI |
Abstract: |
A low-power 10-bit 50-MS/s pipeline analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is
described in this paper. The downscaling along the pipeline chain decreases the
power and area consumption without sacrificing the performance of this
converter, and a low power on-chip reference circuit is also helping to reduce
power consumption. To improve sampling accuracy of the sub-ADC and minimize the
offset of comparator, Digital Error Logic (DEL) is used. The ADC is implemented
in a standard 0.13-μm CMOS technology and occupies an active die area of 0.6
mm2. The differential and integral nonlinearity of the ADC are less than 0.27
LSB and 0.63 LSB, respectively. The ADC achieves 8.84 effective number of bits
at full sampling rate with a 1-MHz input and consumes 50-mW from a 2.5-V supply. |

A NEW TOPOLOGY OF THREE PHASE BUCK-BOOST INVERTER WITH BUFFER INDUCTOR |
Author: |

Abstract: |
The electric vehicle inverter requires an induction motor drive with a high
output of voltage and current to reduce the number of batteries used and in turn
to reduce the vehicle’s weight. In this paper, a new topology of a three-phase
buck-boost inverter (TPBBI) with a buffer inductor (BI) is proposed. The
performance of the proposed inverter topology was tested using a power simulator
program. The inverter was designed with a proper component of inductors and
capacitors. For a given load resistor, it was shown that the inverter can
produce a sinusoidal output voltage and current with an amplification of more
than three times. A simulation was also carried out in a case of an inverter
loaded to three-phase induction motor with a specific torque and moment of
inertia. It was demonstrated that the inverter still can produce the sinusoidal
output voltage and current and can reduce the applied torque and thus a stable
condition of the inverter can be maintained. The proposed inverter is suitable
to be implemented for the electric vehicle. |

Abstract: |
In this paper, we present a new method of camera calibration with varying
parameters by a hybrid optimization algorithm that combines simplex algorithm
and the modified genetic algorithm. Comparing to traditional optimization
methods, the cameras calibration with varying parameters by this approach can
avoid being trapped in a local minimum and converge quickly to the optimal
solution without initial estimation of the cameras parameters. Several
experiments are implemented using a 3D grid characterized by these coordinates
which are known, to demonstrate the validity and performance of the proposed
technique. The results show that this approach is accurate and robust to single
optimization methods. |

Abstract: |
Recently, omnidirectional vision has become necessary and useful for many
computer science applications, such as autonomous navigation, SLAM, video
surveillance and conferencing. However the use of classical image processing
tools for omnidirectional images without taking into account their special
particularities leads to a lack of performance. This article presents a new gray
level edge detector based on a spherical virtual electrostatic model more
appropriate for omnidirectional images. Several experimental results are given
to illustrate the potential of this non-gradient based approach on various
images especially against noise. Confrontation to other classical methods is

UNDERWATER IMAGE ENHANCEMENT USING ADAPTIVE FILTERING FOR ENHANCED SIFT-BASED
IMAGE MATCHING |
Author: |

Abstract: |
Success of scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) image registration is
limited when attempted on camera footage taken under water. This is, largely due
to the poor image quality inherent to imaging in aquatic environments. In this
research we aim to overcome this shortcoming using a new method of
pre-processing of true-color imagery taken under water based on the Contrast
Limited Adaptive Histogram image Equalization (CLAHE) algorithm. CLAHE assumes
that the distribution function of the pixel intensity values of an
underwater-recorded image is dominated by Rayleigh scattering, and that the
noise can be removed as a function hereof. Results showed that after applying
the CLAHE image enhancement method registration success of SIFT increased by 41%
compared to reference method (a straightforward contrast stretching
enhancement). From the ANOVA results follows that the null hypothesis can be
rejected and concluded that there is a significant difference among SIFT without
enhancement, SIFT with contrast stretching and SIFT with CLAHE-Rayleigh at 5%
level of significance (ANOVA, F=23.41, df=2, p-value=7.34e-09). The finding
concludes that CLAHE-Rayleigh is better compared to contrast stretching. As a
follow-up study, CLAHE-Rayleigh should be compared with other image enhancement
techniques (or a combination of techniques ‘hybrids’) to assess their relative
impact on the success of SIFT-based image matching of underwater photography. |

Abstract: |
The design of a semiconductor component such as semiconductor optical amplifiers
(SOAs) necessarily needs to go through a phase of modeling which allows studying
a theoretical characterization of the SOA and anticipating its reactions on the
basis of the operating conditions. This will ensure a qualitative prediction of
most accurate performance of the SOA. The development of a theoretical model is
a multidisciplinary activity that needs engineering skills, optimization and
physics. In this paper, we propose a numerical algorithm which enables the
efficient implementation of the model, by the means of the finite difference
method (FDM) and the rate equations. The model can be used to investigate the
effects of different material and geometrical parameters on SOA characteristics.
It is found that at low input optical power, the carrier density has a
symmetrical spatial distribution, while at high input optical power, the carrier
density spatial distribution becomes more asymmetrical. For input optical powers
less than -25 dBm, the gain of the amplifier remains constant for different
values of the molar fraction of arsenide and it reaches the maximum when y =
0.892. In our study, among the aspects of the importance of SOA is the use of an
electrical controlled optical gate when the cavity lengths are great and the
values of the molar fraction of arsenide are low. Using this model, our
simulation results go in accordance with some published results for SOAs. |

Abstract: |
The goal of Service Science, Management and Engineering (SSME) is to improve
service systems through service innovation. However, current SSME infrastructure
lacks a comprehensive quality management framework and the SSME research on
people is limited. Users’ service expectation has increased a lot along with the
development of ICT. Single organization usually cannot fulfill user’s needs
comprehensively. This study first analyzes the shortcomings of current system
development and quality evaluation methodologies, and points out that these
methods cannot meet the requirement of cross-organizational services; then, by

COLLABORATIVE SENSING BASED WIDEBAND DETECTION IN COGNITIVE RADIO NETWORKS |
Author: |
XIAOFENG JIANG, XINGHUA LIU, HONGSHENG XI |
Abstract: |
Spectrum sensing techniques are useful to increase spectrum utilization in a
cognitive radio network by sensing spectrum holes without harmful interference.
The collaboration of sensing information among cognitive radio nodes can
significantly increase the reliability of spectrum sensing. Due to hardware
limitation, each cognitive radio node has to sense one narrowband channel at a
time. Consequently, the sensing procedure consumes a lot of time to get the
sufficient information. A wideband sensing method is used to reduce the time
overhead. Each node only senses a small amount of linear combinations of the
information of all channels, and then transmit this low dimensional detection
vector to the fusion center where the information is reconstructed. As a result,
the time overhead and the communication overhead are significantly reduced. Six
performance measures have been observed in the system which considers the call
hold and residence of both licensed users and cognitive radio nodes. The
observations show that the algorithm has a good performance. |

Abstract: |
Femtocell is a small cellular base station installed in offices and homes that
can combine internet technologies and mobile within the home [1]. The two major
limitations of wireless communication are range and capacity. Cellular service
is far superior in areas of high population density compared to scarcely
populated areas [2]. Also it provides many benefits in terms of cost, power,
capacity and scalability. However, there are many challenges in the deployment
of femtocells such as network architecture, allocation of spectrum resources and
the avoidance of electromagnetic interference. In this paper we simulate and
develop models of one of access method to create sharing between subscribers and
service operator to improve the coverage of operator and reduce the cost for

AN ONTOLOGY BASED APPROACH FOR DISASTER PREDICTION |
Author: |
YINGLONG MA, XIAO YU |
Abstract: |
Natural disasters are those anomalies created by the nature in the process of
the Earth. The harms they have caused to human society tend to be horrifying.
Almost every country will be more or less affected by natural disasters
annually. In consequence, giving a fairly accurate forecast of the disaster that
may happen turns into a vital part of disaster prevention. Traditional research
on disasters is mainly based on classical statistical methods or expertise
judgment, which is lack of semantic-driven and intelligent reasoning. In this
paper, an ontology based approach for disaster prediction was put forward. As
the explicit specification of a conceptualization, ontologies can achieve a
certain degree of knowledge sharing and reuse, and improve the system ability of
communications, interoperability and reliability. On the basis of analyzing the
influencing factors and historical evolution of disasters, a domain ontology
model of natural disaster in OWL ontology language was created. The hidden
influencing factors or disaster chain information can be excavated by the
reasoner with domain-specific rules. As a result, we built an ontology-driven
disaster prediction and information system. By performing the task of typhoon
prediction based on our ontology-based system, our approach can improve the
intelligence level of the disaster in its management and forecast. |

ENERGY MANAGEMENT SCHEME WITH LOAD BALANCING FOR PREEMPTIVE DYNAMIC SOURCE
ROUTING PROTOCOL FOR MANET |
Author: |
V. RAMESH, Dr. P. SUBBAIAH |
Abstract: |
Energy management issues are very important in the context of ad hoc networks.
Energy needs to be optimally utilized so that the nodes can perform their
functionality satisfactorily. MANETs are energy constrained as most ad hoc nodes
to day operate with limited battery power. So, it is important to minimize
energy consumption of the entire network in order to maximize the life time of
the network. In this paper we proposed load balancing method for the new
on-demand routing protocol (Preemptive DSR). As per the method, the PDSR selects
a route at any time based on the minimum energy availability of the routes and
the energy consumption per packet of the route at that time. The Simulation
results shows that PDSR has increased packet delivery ratio and decreased delay
compared with existing DSR. |

Abstract: |
Muti-physics coupling technologies could achieve a more real simulation for
Earth system. The complexity of such simulation is a difficult problem. This
paper presents an efficient Earth system simulation framework based on CCA
(Common Component Architecture) which is applied in large scale scientific

framework could better solve the complexity and provide a “plug-and-play”
simulation environment. It could integrate the distributed high performance
computing resources, distributed and heterogeneous physical model resources, and
finally offer a transparent science research platform for the earth science
researchers, which could provide construction, management, analysis service of
the muti-physics coupling simulation. A preliminary prototype framework platform

INVESTIGATION OF MULTIPACTION RISK IN COAXIAL RESONATORS |
Author: |
XUMIN YU, XIAOHONG TANG, JUAN WANG, DAN TANG |
Abstract: |
Multipaction risk in a resonator differs from transmission line risk, in that
the former can store energy, both frequency-dependent electric and magnetic.
Multipaction threshold powers likewise differ in coaxial resonators. In this
paper, an investigation on multipactor risk in different coaxial resonators is
presented for the first time. Peak voltage analysis and multipaction threshold
measurements of four kinds of coaxial resonators indicate that multipaction
threshold in the coaxial resonator is not simply proportional to minimize gap
distant and that different inner cylinders structures in the same outside
cavities resonating at L band have at least 1-dB difference. Experimental
results agree with the predicted characteristics. |

Abstract: |
This paper presents the design and simulation of controllers in power system
equipped with UPFC. Each controller produce different supplementary signals, the
power system stabilizer PSS signal for machine and the power oscillation damping
POD signal for UPFC. A two stage lead lag compensator scheme was considered in
the PSS structure. A new controller design, linear optimal control LOC
associated with modal control scheme MO, is proposed in both PSS and POD design.
The multi-objective GA method was used to determine the parameter controllers
for both PSS and POD. The controller performances were investigated by using
small disturbance to power system. The simulation results show that the presence
of UPFC non POD leads to get less stability system. Appropriate PSS parameters
have been determined and could enhance dynamic responses performance. Using
Bryson method for weighting matrix Q, proposed LOC POD could improve system
stability. The simulation results also show that system with PSS and MO POD has
the best oscillation damping. The dominant eigenvalues shift and approach their
real part threshold. POD controllers could give a better rotor angle response,
up to 81.33% and 93.9% reduction in overshoot and settling time respectively.
Both PSS and UPFC POD controller simultaneously present a positive interaction. |

OPTIMIZED RELIABLE AND LOAD BALANCED ROUTING PROTOCOL FOR MOBILE AD HOC NETWORKS |
Author: |
K.SANTHI, M. PUNITHAVALLI |
Abstract: |
In Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs),
high transmission overhead is involved since DSR header size comprises the IP
addresses of all the nodes involved in the transmission of the data packet. By
reducing the amount of the packets involved in routing, the DSR control overhead
is reduced by most of the optimization techniques. In this paper, we develop an
optimization technique for DSR to reduce the overhead during data transmission.
The optimization is performed in two phases. In the first phase, the route for
the data packet transmission is determined and the bloom filter is used for the
estimation of the compressed source route at every node. In the second phase,
before the transmission of the data packet, the related information of the
transmitting intermediate node is deleted. This prevents the data packet from
including all its intermediate node information on transmission, in turn
maintaining the data packet size to the original size without overloading it.
Thus this technique reduces the overall overhead in the network. By simulation
results, we show that the proposed technique reduces the overhead and hence the
energy consumption and delay. |

FUZZY LOGIC TECHNIQUE FOR GOSSIP BASED RELIABLE BROADCASTING IN MOBILE AD HOC

G.KALPANA, DR.M.PUNITHAVALLI |
Abstract: |
Gossiping is the well-organized approach for information dissemination in Mobile
Adhoc Network (MANET). In Gossiping approach, the node forwards packets with the
probability known as retransmission probability. This probability must be chosen
appropriately and effectively which is a challenging task. In this paper, we
propose a fuzzy logic technique for gossip based reliable broadcasting in Mobile
Ad hoc Networks. In this technique, each node computes the node velocity,
residual energy and node degree. These inputs are passed through the fuzzy
system and the fuzzified inputs are fed to the rule base system. Rules are
constructed based on the intuitive that the rebroadcast probability at the nodes
in sparser areas should be set high and that of at the nodes in denser areas as
low. The outcome of fuzzy system defines the value for retransmission
probability. Through simulations, we prove the proficiency of our technique
which reduces the packet loss ratio and improves the network performance. |

POINT CLOUD REGISTRATION FOR A NON-DEFORMABLE OBJECT USING SURFACE CURVATURE

Abstract: |
Recently, many applications require 3D information of an object (i.e. point
cloud) such as 3D image scanning, 3D surface reconstruction and etc. However
many researches on point cloud registration face many challenges especially for
increasing the accuracy of point cloud matching. This research employs surface
curvature features in discrete surfaces. A surface curvature feature is a
pointer of ridges that are invariant to rigid body transformations. In this
paper, a new algorithm of point cloud registration for non deformable object is
proposed. This algorithm employs surface curvature features estimated by fitting
k-nearest neighbor of local point to hyperbolic paraboloid equation.
The proposed algorithm is implemented with Iterative Closest Point (ICP)
technique and quantitatively evaluated and compared with common techniques for
point cloud registration. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed
technique approximately 63% faster and 23% more accurate than iterative closest
point with angular invariant feature (ICP-AIF) registration techniques. These
results are obtained by testing the proposed frame work with noise, different
pose of point cloud and overlapped area.
