Abstract: |
The Green Transportation issues are gaining interest from theoretical, political
and social perspectives. Freight road transport, that is one important aspect of
environmentally responsible logistics, is discussed in depth. The activity of
transport causes a high rate of negative effects on the environment, as
pollutants emission (greenhouse gas). The immediate consequence of this effects
is depletion of ozone layer and climate change, that is the reason why we must
been reducing the emissions from the sector. Nevertheless, the classical
capacitated vehicle routing problem (CVRP) with the objective of minimizing the
greenhouse gas especially the carbon dioxide (CO2), states for the problem of
finding routes for vehicles to serve a set of customers while minimizing the CO2
emissions. We present in this paper the technique employed to estimate de CO2
emissions, the emissions matrix and their integration into the CVRP model, then
we propose a Hybrid Ant Colony System (HACS) to solve the CVRP with the
objective of minimizing the CO2. The effectiveness of our approach is tested on
a well-known set of benchmarks. Note that our approach is the first adaptation
for this problem by the ant colony system. |

EFFICIENT PLANAR SELFCALIBRATION OF A STATIONARY CAMERA WITH VARIABLE INTRINSIC
PARAMETERS |
Author: |
I.EL BATTEOUI, A.SAAIDI, 1K.Satori |
Abstract: |
In this paper, an unknown planar scene is used to auto-calibrate a camera with
variable intrinsic parameters. The images are obtained by changing the zoom of
the camera giving the calibration matrices different from one view to another.
The principal idea of our method reside in the use three matches only between
three images of the planar scene for computing the projection matrix of a
parallelogram and the application to the camera a pure rotation giving other
equations of self-calibration .The computing of the projection matrix in the ith
image leads us to establish a mathematical relationship between it and the image
of the absolute conic in the same view. That is said, a non-linear cost function
is formulated whose minimization allows us to estimate the parameters of the
image of the absolute conic and consequently the elements of each calibration
matrix can be determined from those of the image of the absolute conic. The
experimental results show the effectiveness of our approach in terms of
robustness, convergence and stability. |

SURVEY ON ETL PROCESSES |
Author: |
AHMED KABIRI, DALILA CHIADMI |
Abstract: |
In Data Warehouse (DW) environment, Extraction-Transformation-Loading (ETL)
processes constitute the integration layer which aims to pull data from data
sources to targets, via a set of transformations. ETL is responsible for the
extraction of data, their cleaning, conforming and loading into the target. ETL
is a critical layer in DW setting. It is widely recognized that building ETL
processes is expensive regarding time, money and effort. It consumes up to 70%
of resources. By this work we intend to enrich the field of ETL processes, the
backstage of data warehouse, by presenting a survey on these processes.
Therefore, in current work, firstly (1) we review open source and commercial ETL
tools, along with some ETL prototypes coming from academic world, secondly (2)
we review the modeling and design works in ETL field. Also, (3) we approach ETL
maintenance issue then (4) we review works in connection with optimization and
incremental ETL. Finally, (5) we present and outline challenges and research
opportunities around ETL processes. |

A STUDY ON LOW POWER RECONFIGURABLE FIR FILTERS WITH DYNAMIC CHANGE IN FILTER
ORDER |
Author: |
PRIYA STALIN, C. ARUN |
Abstract: |
An architectural approach to design low power reconfigurable finite impulse
response (LPRFIR) filter. The LPRFIR is well suited when the filter order is
fixed and not changed for particular applications and efficient trade-off
between power savings and filter performance can be implemented using the
proposed architecture. Generally, FIR filter has large amplitude variations in
input data and coefficients. Considering the amplitude of both the filter
coefficients and inputs, proposed FIR filter dynamically changes the filter
order. Mathematical analysis on power savings and filter performance degradation
and its experimental results shows that the proposed approach achieves
significant power savings without seriously compromising the filter performance.
The power savings is up to 20.5% with minor performance degradation and the area
overhead of the proposed scheme is less than 5.3% compared to the conventional
approach. |

EVALUATION OF INTRA-FLOW CONTENTION IN MANET |
Author: |
SABRI SAEED, MAHAMOD ISMAIL, ROSILAH HASSAN, ABDULMALEK AL-HEMYARI |
Abstract: |
In mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) with contention-based MAC, the nodes along a
path of transmission contend for access the medium in a distributed manner, this
leads to intra-flow contention that cause degradation in the network
performance. The precision for determining the intra-flow contention helps any
contention-based admission control to make correct decisions to admit or reject
any new flows, and in turn improves the performance of the network. However, the
calculation of the intra-flow contention is challenging, because the nodes only
know their neighbors that are located within the transmission range, but do not
aware about those are located between the edge of the carrier sense range and
the transmission range, or those are located within interference range of the
receiver. This paper analysis the intra-flow contention and evaluates the
existing methods in the literature for calculating the contention count. The
analysis shows that, the current methods still have limitation in term of the
covered area for calculating the intra-flow contention, they also have
considerable overhead and delay that cause impact on the throughput in MANETs. |

Author: |
D.JAYASRI, DR. D. MANIMEGALAI |
Abstract: |
In Biomedical research, retrieving documents that match an interesting query is
a task performed quite frequently. Typically, the set of obtained results is
extensive containing many non-interesting documents and consists in a flat list,
i.e., not organized or indexed in any way. In this paper, we have presented an
efficient bio-medical document retrieval system with the proposed cross-ontology
based semantic similarity measure. Here, we have utilized the WordNet and MeSH
ontologies for matching the input query keyword. As well, we have designed a
novel cross-ontology based semantic similarity measure for the query keywords.
The proposed system runs with three major processes, which includes 1)
Extracting features from the documents based on TF-IDF similarity, 2) Indexing
of documents by Rabin Fingerprint algorithm and 3) Retrieving the relevant
documents based on distance measure. Finally, the relevant documents are
retrieved from the document repository using the matching result. The
experimentation process is carried out with the aid of the different set of
medical documents and hence achieved the results. The performance analysis of
the proposed retrieval system is evaluated by comparing the existing similarity
measures along with evaluation metrics such as precision, recall and F-measure
by achieving more than 95% accuracy in most cases. |

Author: |
HAITHAM ALALI, JUHANA SALIM |
Abstract: |
Knowledge management in health care sector poses a challenge for policy makers
and international health organizations. Nowadays, virtual communities of
practice (VCoPs) resolve many problems, which arise from geographical distance
and expensive learning process in health care sector. It is used by health
professionals and researchers, for improving health care services quality, by
enhancing the knowledge of health practitioners. Whereby, satisfaction of using
VCoPs is the nucleus its success, since, pleasant experience with VCoPs will
lead to better “user satisfaction”, which in turn leads to increase the number
of users. This study aims to identify the determinants of member’s satisfaction
with VCoPs. We have also developed a VCoPs satisfaction model, based on the
information systems (IS) success theories: the technology acceptance model (TAM)
and DeLone and McLean IS success model. The proposed model can be used to
evaluate and measure the satisfaction of VCoPs in health care sector. |

INCREASING THE LIFETIME OF MANETS BY POWER AWARE PROTOCOL - SPAN |
Author: |
K. SARAVANAN, T.VELMURUGAN, A. BAGUBALI |
Abstract: |
Energy consumption is a critical issue for battery-powered mobile devices in ad
hoc networks. Ad hoc wireless networks are power constrained since nodes operate
with limited battery energy. If the routing protocol is not power aware, nodes
simply get drained out of energy not being able to send, receive or forward
packets to the destinations, thus degrading the performance of the network and
network lifetime. Thus, routing protocols should be designed along with features
of power aware protocols. This paper presents ‘Span’ a power aware protocol
which is exploited by the routing protocols to increase the lifetime of
networks. |

NEW VARIABLE AMPLITUDE CARRIER OVERLAPPING PWM METHODS FOR THREE PHASE FIVE
LEVEL CASCADED INVERTER |
Author: |
C.R.BALAMURUGAN, S.P.NATARAJAN. M.ARUMUGAM |
Abstract: |
This paper presents the comparison of various Carrier Overlapping Pulse Width
Modulation (COPWM) Strategies for the chosen three phase Cascaded Multi Level
Inverter (CMLI). Various new schemes adopting the constant switching frequency
and also variable switching frequency multicarrier control freedom degree
combination concepts are developed and simulated for the chosen three phase CMLI.
The three phase CMLI, is controlled in this paper with Sinusoidal PWM (SPWM)
reference along with Carrier Overlapping (CO) techniques and simulation is
performed using MATLAB-SIMULINK. The variation of fundamental RMS output voltage
and total harmonic distortion is observed for various carrier overlapping
techniques. Among the various equal amplitude carrier overlapping techniques
such as COPWM-1, COPWM-2, COPWM-3, and COPWM-4, it is observed that COPWM-3
provides less Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and COPWM-4 provides relatively
higher RMS voltage. Among the various Variable Amplitude COPWM (VACOPWM)
techniques such as VACOPWM-1, VACOPWM-2, VACOPWM-3, and VACOPWM-4, it is
inferred that VACOPWM-3 provides less THD and VACOPWM-2 and VACOPWM-3 provide
higher RMS voltage. It also found that VACOPWM strategies perform better than
corresponding COPWM strategies. |

Author: |
ABDULRAHMAN ALKAFF, MASNIZAH MOHD |
Abstract: |
Most of the crimes committed today are reported on the Internet through news,
blogs and social networking sites. These sources have provided a huge amount of
crime data, presenting a need for a means to extract useful information. In this
research, the evaluation of Direct and Indirect extraction of nationality from
crime news, along with the additional references to identify the nationalities
of suspects, victims and witnesses is presented. Named entity recognition using
gazetteers and rule-based extraction are used, in addition to co-reference
resolution to link references. The proposed approach was evaluated and compared
to manual extraction system. The results indicate that the proposed approach is
able to extract most information related to nationality from crimes news and
identify the additional information references. Its performance proved good,
with 55% precision, 96% recall, and 70% f-measure evaluation metrics. |

Abstract: |
Multiple Input Multiple Output-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM)
system is a new wireless broadband technology which has gained great popularity
for its capability of high rate transmission and its robustness against
multi-path fading and other channel impairments. Irrespective of the techniques
being employed in wireless communication System (such as OFDM, MIMO, or
MIMO-OFDM techniques) to combat the effects of the channel on the transmitted
signals, the availability of the channel state information (CSI) at the receiver
end of the communication system remains a crucial factor for effective
functioning of these techniques as well as for the successful recovery of the
transmitted signal. The major challenge faced in MIMO-OFDM systems is how to
obtain the channel state information accurately and promptly for coherent
detection of information symbols In this paper, Least Squares (LS) channel
estimation and Discrete Prolate Spheroidal Sequences based channel estimation
methods are implemented for 2x2 MIMO OFDM systems with Alamouti technique and
their performance is compared. In order to improve the performance of the
systems further, Adaptive Modulation concept is introduced. The simulation
outcome shows that the performance of MIMO OFDM is much better than the
conventional methods. |

SLEEP QUALITY MONITOR USING STRESS ANALYSIS AND REM SLEEP DETECTION |
Author: |
N RUBAN, SURAJ KUMAR PANDA, SWABHAB PRAKASH MUDULI, A MARY MEKALA |
Abstract: |
This paper discusses a method for estimating sleep quality. It expresses the
sleep quality as percentage. It is based on National Instruments LabVIEW. Two
approaches are used to arrive at the sleep quality. Approach one involves
quantifying the stress level that the subject is under. It is done by measuring
the change in skin resistance which changes with stress. Stress levels have
shown to have significant impact on sleep quality. Approach two involves design
of an electrooculograph system. The EOG helps in detection of eyeball movement,
hence helps in detection of Rapid Eye Movement (REM sleep) during sleep. REM
sleep is generally associated with quality of sleep. Hence, the frequency of
eyeball movements during sleep and the cycles in which they occur are used as an
indication of sleep quality. The results from above mentioned approaches are
integrated in program in LabVIEW using a suitable algorithm to give an
indication of sleep quality. This project can be used for early detection and
treatment of sleep disorders. |

Enterprises are more and more moving to the cloud to take advantages of its
economic and technological model. However, Privacy and Security issues are often
cited as the main obstacle to the adoption of cloud computing for enterprises;
hence we need to have a clear understanding of security needs in the cloud in
order to achieve solutions. The aim of this paper is twofold: firstly, to
distinguish general security issues from cloud-related, and secondly, to provide

FUZZY SLIDING MODE CONTROLLER FOR POWER SYSTEM SMIB |
Author: |
KHADDOUJ BEN MEZIANE, FAIZA DIB, ISMAIL BOUMHIDI |
Abstract: |
In this paper, a method combining fuzzy logic and sliding mode controller is
proposed for the robust control of power system Single-Machine Infinite-Bus (SMIB).
The aim of this study is to overcome some shortcoming of conventional power
system stabilizer (CPSS), fuzzy logic power system stabilizer (FPSS) and sliding
mode controllers (SMC). When conventional PSS is employed, it will result a poor
performance. SMC can be used to achieve robust stability in power system.
However, in the presence of large uncertainty, a higher switching gain is
required, which produce higher amplitude of chattering. In this study, a direct
fuzzy logic controller is designed and the sliding mode controller is added to
compensate the fuzzy approximation errors. The simulation results clearly
indicate the effectiveness and validity of the proposed method, in terms of
convergence, time and precision. |

Abstract: |
Vertical handover is essential to ensure service continuity in a heterogeneous
network. Multi-criteria decision is proposed to reduce handover rate and
optimizing usage of network resource compared to the conventional handover
decision, which used single criteria. The algorithm is evaluated by assessing
the performance in terms of number of handoff, load balance index, and network
blocking probability. By implementing the proposed handover decision algorithm,
the number of handoff decreased up to 90.81%. The average blocking probability
decreases by 23.20% and the load balance index was improved by 68.50%. |

UPDATING RM-ODP BY INTEGRATION OF SOA AND CLOUD COMPUTING |
Author: |
MOSTAFA JEBBAR , OTHMAN BENAMMAR and ABDERRAHIM SEKKAKI |
Abstract: |
The objective of ODP is according to ITU-T Recommendation X.901 stated as
follows: “The objective of ODP standardization is the development of standards
that allow the benefits of distributing information processing services to be
realized in an environment of heterogeneous IT resources and multiple
organizational domains. These standards address constraints on system
specification and the provision of a system infrastructure that accommodate
difficulties inherent in the design and programming of distributed systems.”
This objective seems to cover cloud computing systems. Therefore, we in this
paper discuss the concepts of cloud, and discuss the use of RM-ODP for
specifying the solution. We indicate that the current RM-ODP may be too abstract
for the purpose, and indicate how to adapt RM-ODP to fit the purpose. |

TRANSCEIVER DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF FREE-SPACE OPTICAL COMMUNICATION |

S.SUGUMARAN, A.JABEENA,T.TULASI RAM KUMAR,K.DILEEP KUMAR |
Abstract: |
In free-space optical communication links, atmospheric turbulence causes
fluctuations in both the intensity and the phase of received light signal,
impairing link performance. In this paper, we describe several communication
techniques to mitigate turbulence-induced intensity fluctuations, that is signal
fading. These techniques are applicable in the regime in which the receiver
aperture is smaller than the correlation length of the fading and the
observation interval is shorter than the correlation time of fading. We assume
that the receiver has no knowledge of the instantaneous fading state. When the
receiver knows only the marginal statistics of the fading, a symbol-by-symbol Ml
detector can be used to improve the detection performance. If the receiver has
knowledge of the joint temporal statistics of fading, maximum- likelihood
sequence detection (MLSD) can be employed, yielding a further performance
improvement, but at the cost very high complexity |
