Grid Computing Infrastructure Architecture Document

b) Grid Computing (Computational Grids)

A computational Grid is a hardware and software infrastructure that provides dependable, consistent, pervasive, and inexpensive access to high-end computational capabilities.

The virtual organization infrastructure that we are concerned with is not only primary file sharing and exchange but rather direct access to computers, software, data, and other resources, as is required by a range of collaborative problem-solving and resource broking strategies. This sharing is highly controlled with resource providers and consumers defining clearly and carefully just what is shared who is allowed and conditions.

We are aiming at a computational grid that is based on

·        Coordinated resources that are not subject to centralized control.

·        Use of standard, open, general purpose protocols and interfaces.

·        It must deliver non-trivial qualities of service.

According to our study these criteria apply most clearly to the various large-scale Grid Workflows being undertaken within the scientific community to address multiple qualities of service dimensions such as security, reliability, and performance. Moreover the problem of inter-grid protocols will also be a subject of research interest. As the user level protocols are to be migrated into the kernel to outperform the current implementation helping in performance gains which can further boosted by the introduction of math kernel libraries.
